What is LNG? à Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled to –160° C, changing it from a gas state into a liquid state that is 1/600th of its original volume. This dramatic reduction makes it much easier to ship and store when pipeline transport is not feasible.

LNG is an odorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive substance. When LNG leaks into the environment, LNG quickly evaporates into the air. Without residues in water or soil, the leakage of LNG can cause a fire. LNG evaporation concentrations in the atmosphere must be in the range of 5%-15% and there must be a fire nearby.
As the world moves towards net zero carbon emissions and renewable energy sources, here’s why LNG may be the ‘clean’ fossil fuel that’s best-placed to help us transition to a carbon-free future.
